Calling for New Venture Crew Adult Leaders

Troop

We have lost several adult leaders for the Venture Crew. We need some help in recruiting more in time for the recharter deadline. We need  volunteers to sign up as crew leaders so we can keep the crew going? This can be a dual Troop/Crew membership so if they are already Troop 48 adult leaders and have completed youth protection training then there’s no cost involved. They will have to complete a new adult leader application. I’d be happy to talk to anyone about what a Crew leader does and get an application to them.

* RE-REGISTRATION WITH THEM. SOME OF YOU HAVE TOLD ME ALREADY – THANKS !

I need time to update our re-chartering database and membership status with the Council so we can complete the re-chartering process. The council’s goal is to have our updated and approved charter papers in their hands with full payment by October 1. Author! Author!

Well done Troop 48. We had a wonderful time at our 2020 Shooting Fair. Many thanks to the cheerful service that our adult leaders provided, the enthusiastic youth that participated and the supremely qualified, steady hands of our archery and shooting range instructors. It is now time to capture the moment.

TO ALL YOUTH: (especially historians)

Volunteer to provide a spirited, positive descriptions (accurate expeditious reporting is preferable to less timely works of art) of the events that took place this weekend. We have several areas that need attention and an abundance of potential contributors. Pick your subject and send Tim Schaefer or Thomas Gould a note with your intentions.

  • Inter Patrol Shooting Competition
  • Feast
  • Dessert Competition
  • Campfire
  • Movie Night
  • Church Service
  • Shooting Demonstrations

2021 Troop 48 Registration

Hi Troop 48,

It’s that time again !!  It will be a challenge, and I believe we are up to it !!  We need you to go to your next patrol meeting prepared to pay dues of $130 (or charge the payment from your account). This covers T-48 National, Council, and Troop expenses for 12 months, 11-1-2020 to 10-31-2021.

If you cannot be at the next Patrol Meeting or Patrol Leaders Council, please send a check to Mr. Miller (see address on attachment), or send me a note asking that I charge your T-48 Savings Account for the dues.

Adult Leaders, in these trying times we are needed more than ever to be an active part of Scouting.  Please continue your registration and support of our troop.

Troop 48 Scouting from Home

Troop 48 can be active during this time of social distancing. This post will be updated as new information is gathered.

First action for online interaction and use of the internet is to have a current Cyber Chip (new or refreshed in past year). Use this link (https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/cyber-chip/) to Scouting BSA website to select the grade-appropriate course.  For the requirement to “teach Internet safety rules, behavior, and “netiquette” to… your patrol”, a email to your patrol copying the adult advisers is appropriate while the troop is not formally meeting. (Jack C. did this for the Wolf patrol.)

Remember that all electronic communication from and with scouts must at at least two adult leaders in the session or on the email.

For lower ranks, requirements starting with Repeat, Explain, Describe, and Tell can be done with a conference call having the scout, a parent, and an adult advisers assigned to your patrol). Demonstrate and Show requirements will need pictures or short video clips. None of these items must be publicly shared – or will be posted without specific permission of the scout and a parent.

For merit badges, please contact Mr. Hasler before starting one as Troop 48 is moving to comply with the certification of merit badge counselors. Make sure that you are working on the latest requirements which can be found at https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/merit-badges/ Not all requirements can be completed during social distancing, but many can be done at home in consultation with your merit badge counselor. (Avery is making a key lime pie – yum. Nathan B. completed Geocaching MB.)

Instructions for completing Citizenship in the Nation merit badge was distributed by Mr. Hasler to scouts who had started or were Life rank and still needed this Eagle-required MB.

Sequoyah Council is offering several advancement training opportunities at https://sequoyahcouncil.org/events/scouting-from-home/ I would highly recommend the Communications MB. The next cycle of three class sessions is to begin Monday, April 13. Registration has not yet been created.

Troop 48 uses the Troopmaster advancement tracking program instead of Scoutbook as stated by Sequoyah Council. Mr. Allen and Mr. Hasler are available to provide information and complete virtual book checks.
