Crazy 8 July 20, 2024

Patrol outing

Can you believe it’s been a year already?!  We are checking in to see if you are still interested in helping with the 2024 Crazy 8s 8K and 3K?  Previous year’s list is below as a reminder.

You all have always been such a great supporter of the race. I look forward to this all year.

A little information about this year. The event is happening July 20, 2024.  We Run Events will once again be host to the USA 8K National Championship.

The USA Track & Field sanctions a circuit of national championships for different road race distances across the country.  The top USA runners travel to these premier events with the hopes of being named the national champion at that distance.  The Crazy 8s 8K has been approved by USA Track & Field to host the 8K championships for 2022 – 2025 and will be added to the USATF Running Circuit.

Schedule of events will remain the same:

  • 7:58 pm – Almost Crazy 3K Run/Walk presented by Ballad Health & Eastman Credit Union
  • 8:58 pm – Ballad Health & Niswonger Children’s Hospital Crazy 8s 8K Run

Based on some observations we have made over the last few years, there will be some changes to the quantity and placement of the water stations. For 2024 we will only have 3 water stations, not including the Barking Lot.. This is due to some water station congestion at certain spots and wasting water. That said, WE STILL NEED YOU. We would love for each group that has helped in the past to assist with owning a neighborhood to make sure everyone is save and we have people cheering the runners along the course. All would be close together, still get shirts and have a lot of fun!

Let us know if your group is still interested in helping this year so we can make sure to put you on the list.  Once I have the confirmations, I will send out more information about times and to get shirt sizes.

We are still vetting out the best locations so below are tentative.

  1. Lamont St/ Bordon Park Parking Lot.  Runners stay straight. 8k only
  2. Martin Dentistry – Midland/Ft. Henry (4K split, 3k and 8k Runners turn onto FT Henry Dr.).  3k and 8k
  3. Swannanoa Ave/ Bruce St. Runners stay straight 8k only
  4. Boy Scout Troop – Barking Lot just before entrance to the stadium (stadium)  3k and 8k

2023 Crazy 8s Water Stations/ Barking Lot: Organization-Contact, Location, Race

  1. UT Alumni Association – Redwood/Borden.  Just past Mile 1.  Runners turn left from Redwood to Borden, then bear right, staying on Borden. 8k only
  2. HMG – Pineola/Greenfield Ave (~2 mile, 3k Runners will go around cone and then turn onto Greenfield; 8k Runners stay straight).  3k and 8k
  3. Martin Dentistry – Midland/Ft. Henry (4K split, 3k and 8k Runners turn onto FT Henry Dr.).  3k and 8k
  4. Mountain Region Family Medicine – Ormond Dr/Swannanoa Ave (~3 mile, 8k Runners turn onto Swannanoa Ave).   8k

Thanks for all you do to support or community.

Why is it important to retain documentation? Noah Malik kept the signed portion of a blue card, thus having proof he completed an Eagle-required merit badge when troop records had a gap.  Book checks are also important for early ranks in case the handbook is misplaced.

plan ahead and invite your family friends and alumni scouters!!

Trip Report: OMBO 2023

Operation Merit Badge Opportunity was hosted on the fourth of February at CHPC. This event focused on completing Merit Badges. It was only the 4 Citizenship merit badges. Specifically Citizenship in the community and Citizenship in Society(a new merit badge) were attended the most by scouts. The fun part about this event was making projects. The interesting part about this event was learning about different religious perspectives and texts. Overall it was a fun event to complete your Eagle required merit badges and everyone had a lot insights after it. It only costs two dollars which is a bargain for completing required merit badges. The event is nice because you end up completing the entire merit badge.
