The Orion Project at the Summit Bechtel Reserve

https://www.summitbsa.org/orionproject/

Troop 48 Avery Padgett is going. He would LOVE to go with some scout from Troop 48. In order to experience this adventure together signing up in a similar timeframe may be necessary.

NOTE: Whenever possible, provisional youth will be placed into a unit/contingent from their region.

Details of the adventure would need to be addressed amongst the family(s) involved.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve is throwing open its gates to any Scouts who want to experience everything the Summit has to offer from July 18 to 31. We have combined all our best programs into one adventure called the Orion Project for the 2021 season only.

The Orion Project is a seven-day overnight program that will give Scouts free reign of the Summit. The name of the game is adventure, and with so many great opportunities for BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, zip lines, canopy tours, challenge courses, climbing, shooting sports, whitewater rafting, and fellowship with Scouts from across the nation, there’s lots to experience and choose from.  Open to all members of Scouts BSA, Venturing and Exploring.

The Summit Staff knows that many plans have changed recently and we’re excited to offer this program to help you get out and enjoy the great outdoors. We are confident that our excellent staff and world class facilities will ensure that all our participants have a once-in-a-lifetime experience during their stay at the Summit.

BONUS: Want to leave your mark in a big way? One aspect of the program will be to give participants the opportunity to take part in focus groups that will directly impact the next BSA National Jamboree! Participants will get to give their opinions and help define the future of the BSA National Jamboree.

Trip Report: Wolf Patrol Worley Cave

On Saturday, October 17th, several Wolf Patrol members gathered for some backyard tomahawks, cooking, pumpkin carving and camping.  On Sunday, the group explored the dark and mysterious limestone wonderland inside Worley Cave (aka Morrill Cave) in Bluff City, TN.  This 7-mile tract near Bluff City was named after the first owner Elias S. Worley.  The cave is full of unique columns and contours, a river basin and hundreds of tiny crevices.  Nine scouts and 4 leaders, ranging from 11-years old to “seasoned” leaders, the patrol pulled together to climb, slide, trudge, slump, crawl, and generally contort to themselves.  The patrol made it through nearly to the back of the cave before we could no longer fit a few through the final tight passages into the last big room.  The kids did an amazing job of pulling together, extending a hand, anchoring a rope, providing guidance and encouragement to ensure all of us journeyed safely.   The pictures say it all.
