Trip Report: Conservation Project and Orienteering at WPSP

Saturday morning 9/19

The Conservation Project at Warriors Path State Park was first completed… including filling several bags with trash, finding a baby snapping turtle, a mouse and a lost dog that went to the local shelter.

Afterwards, many scouts stayed around to gain training and demonstration of Orienteering skills. We covered First Class requirement #4a: Using a map and compass, complete an orienteering course that covers at least one mile and requires measuring the height and/ or width of designated items (tree, tower, ditch, etc.). This skill demonstration was needed by 28 scouts in the troop. However, it will be staged again for the half that missed this opportunity.

Orienteering merit badge was also offered.
Req. 2 – What is Orienteering?
Req. 4 a.- 4 f. – Topographical Maps (terrain features, symbols, declination, orient map with compass).
Req. 5 – 100-Meter Pace Course
Req. 9 – Older Scouts working on merit badge, Act as an official during the event. Thank you Jack, Josh and Nathan B !!!

IF YOU STILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING, WE NEED YOU TO DO IT THIS WEEK !!!!
See this post: Adult Youth Protection Training Needs for October Recharter

* IF YOU ARE DUAL-REGISTERED WITH A PACK OR ANOTHER UNIT, LET US KNOW YOU ARE
* CONTINUING UNDER THEIR CHARTER IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID YOUR 2021
* RE-REGISTRATION WITH THEM. SOME OF YOU HAVE TOLD ME ALREADY – THANKS !

I need time to update our re-chartering database and membership status with the Council so we can complete the re-chartering process. The council’s goal is to have our updated and approved charter papers in their hands with full payment by October 1. If we turn in the charter papers with you not re-registered, you will drop off the Troop (and BSA) membership roster – let’s avoid you having to submit a new application to join.

Thanks for your support of this important activity !!

Author! Author!

Well done Troop 48. We had a wonderful time at our 2020 Shooting Fair. Many thanks to the cheerful service that our adult leaders provided, the enthusiastic youth that participated and the supremely qualified, steady hands of our archery and shooting range instructors. It is now time to capture the moment.

TO ALL YOUTH: (especially historians)

Volunteer to provide a spirited, positive descriptions (accurate expeditious reporting is preferable to less timely works of art) of the events that took place this weekend. We have several areas that need attention and an abundance of potential contributors. Pick your subject and send Tim Schaefer or Thomas Gould a note with your intentions.

  • Inter Patrol Shooting Competition
  • Feast
  • Dessert Competition
  • Campfire
  • Movie Night
  • Church Service
  • Shooting Demonstrations

Gear Donation Request

Hello Troop 48!

Our Troop 48 closet has started to get low on gear. If any of you all (especially senior Scouts) have old gear to donate we would really appreciate it. We could use old uniforms (class a), t-shirts, backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents, boots, etc. Your help would be greatly appreciated so we can in turn help our new Scouts.

Thank you all so much!
Jonathan Preshong – Senior Patrol Leader
