Patrol leadership do a Weather check!!! Bring a canopy cover !! Plan accordingly make arrangements; send a reminder for weekly meetings out doors If it’s raining we will have a rain cover, but bring rain gear, if it’s hot make sure you bring a water bottles to fill up, water  station will be available .

Be prepared!!!!

The Troop will be meeting outside each week we will set up and use of the bus port .

The Boy Scouts: Troop 48 may continue to operate on site but is asked to meet outside only through October 1st. The Pavilion will be available for this ministry and the troop shall be a priority.

Note :

7:00 Opening + Announcements CHPC Bus port

•CURRENT TRIP PLAN : 9/4 channels:!) Meeting at CHPC by 8:15 am.  Follow I-81 north and exit just past Abingdon at Exit 24 (VA 80).  Drive about 14 miles on VA 80 to Hyder Gap parking lot on left.  9:45 -10:00 AM rally at the trailhead after parking details are sorted. Hike about 3.3 miles in (mostly uphill rated moderate) over mostly dirt and gravel trails. 12:30 PM eat lunch at the top near the Channel Maze entrance. Explore the Channels maze (for roughly an hour) by squeezing through unusual, (~20 acre in size) ancient stone formations (USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM).  For more details and photos, look up Channels of Virginia on the Internet. 2:00 PM rally for the return hike reversing the same 3.3 miles back. Arrive at the trailhead parking lot 3:45 PM and depart for CHPC shortly thereafter.

We currently have 14 Signed up for this trip with it being a long holiday weekend if we do not have more interest by Tuesday we may look to reschedule for a FALL OUTING

Weather check!!! Patrol leadership make arrangements for a pop up canopy for weekly meetings for rain cover

CHPC Building Map with Patrol Locations

It’s important that ALL in attendance wear masks or have a medical note, do not attend if they are having any COVID systems, take attendance including adults and take temperatures 
Scouts May not be in any area of the church that is used by the Day School 
Cleaning and sanitizing all areas uses. Patrols will have designated meeting area they have to meet in the same area the church dose not want to cross contaminate. Rooms of use 103, 107  and the Office 103A off 107 the Boys bathroom off 107/103A ; The kid connection room and the coffee shop . 
They did not want Fox patrol in the locker room ( bottom of steps ) so have offered the use of the back chorus room area all the way in the back of the youth center off 103 this is room 101 we have to figure out an entry point . 
FYI: 103- is to use the locker room step area not to walk trough 107 
It’s important that they do not touch or use any of the games toys or activities in the youth room and that everyone is to use their own entrance. 
After meeting has started the scouts that need to go to the office May use the 103 A entrance ONLY 5 people may be in the office at anytime 
I understand there was some confusion with why we were doing things the way we were Tuesday and I ask you to please just be patient with the procedure as we are doing everything we can to work together with our charter organization to follow their code.

  • Phoenix Blue ; 113B (coffee shop) -side door
  • Panther Red; 113A(GYM) – Use the side door for the Coffee Shop1 
  • Flaming Arrow; Yellow 107 door has been changed PLEASE use the holly path side door .
  • Wolf green ; 103 up the steps by the gym side door going into locker room through office-
  • Fox orange ; will be moved to 101 side entrance beside sanctuary.

Patrol Box check quartermasters:    Clean ans update have a quartermaster available to work with Mr. Barbee we need to clean ans organized the garage and closet.

Patrol binders update scribe : make sure that your binder has all up dated information and has the correct paperwork to plan trips , meals and events.

Patrol Trip, advancement amd fellowship planning. Each week each patrol should have a activity and or planning time. Many patrols have gotten away from Patrol activities it’s important to plan patrol activities for fellowship and advancement. Many patrols did not work and plan for successfully meals at DTR let’s see improvements

PATROL LEADERSHIP

1. Call patrol members not present! It is important!

• Little pantry: conduct an in-patrol food drive to fill the little pantry with non-perishable Foods note no glass bottles. ( powdered milk and baby food is needed)

• PLC host help with organizing the Materials Needed at Meetings

 • Service : Stomp cans ,Straighten up Garage and Office

WEEKLY ROTATION • West Bank Please pick up branches & trash, rake leaves Good Turn part of “West Bank:” Use rakes and spread mulch to fill in holes in Children’s Playground. ( help weekly patrol and tend to pay yard ) West Bank is now on a weekly rotation and should be done by the listed patrol.

•CEREMONY > if we can all meet in the gym again to start Panther will lead in Oath and law

•Games > plan a troop game or activities to build scouting skills to be played as a trip after patrol activities

PLANNING

Please encourage book checks for all scouts actively working on advancements, go to office at schedule time patrol leader’s should see Mr. Hasler weekly for patrol advice of advancement.

Summer vacation is almost over. Have you see seen all of your scout friends recently? Patrol leaders and assistants make time to reach out to your missing members tonight (call them). Scouts are friendly so the call will be easy. Invite them to return and tell them of our upcoming events. Fill out the communication form and return it to Mr. Gould.

At 8 PM on 7/27 in the gym Melinda Cannon will hold a 20-minute class covering Second Class Requirement #9a. “discuss with a selected individual approved by your leader the constitutional rights and obligations of a U.S. citizen.”

At 8 PM on a future date in the gym Mr. John White will hold a 30-minute class covering Second Class Requirement #7c. This should be a WELL ATTENDED class as there are over 30 youth still needing this.

Our Covid protocol has changed, please review Troop 48’s new plan with Rev. J David. Our agreement with the church to stay within designated areas not used by day school continues. We are to wear a mask when in larger groups (more than 25) in smaller areas (like the Jones Building.) We may now have Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review in the Jones Building.  We do not have to wear a mask if vaccinated in patrol rooms; however, if more than 25 then all people wear masks with new CDC guidance. We ask that you respect the numbers we have when we come together. Covid screening is discontinued; however, if you are not feeling well to not attend scouting activities.

Approximately 1 hour from Kingsport to Kyle’s Ford (where the put-in is) Whe: meet at the put-in, the TWRA ramp, across the road from the River Place on the Clinch (2788 Hwy 70 Kyle’s Ford, TN 37765. Take out: Dorthey’s Barn (3652 Horton Ford Rd. Eidson TN 37731)

20210806 Cherokee Lake Canoe (Dick Tracy Rock) (Trip Sheet)

We are offering a Friday night experience to older youth (age 14 by September 1st and 1st class).

All others are welcome to join in on Saturday for what would be a standard DTR weekend.

Trip consists of backpack-style tent camping on an island (sometimes) in Cherokee Lake, about 3 miles from Camp Davy Crockett.

Note to those returning from CDC summer camp:

If you have returned home from camp and have something that is not yours bring it to scouts on Tuesday!!! We have some found and lost  items reported ! Please check gear !!!!

Philmont crew !!! Finally after the long wait of covid cancellations 11 Troop 48 scouts amd leaders will be departing for a Philmont adventure. Philmont Scout Ranch is a ranch located in Colfax County, New Mexico, near the village of Cimarron; it covers 140,177 acres of wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of the Rocky Mountains. 717-R-03 crew T48 will leave July 15 and return July 30 your scoutmaster and SPL will be attending this expedition.  However arranged leadership coverage in their absence.
