I wanted to make you aware of some upcoming opportunities for your troops to volunteer! I’ve attached a schedule of seven cleanups on seven different Saturdays this spring, starting with this Saturday. If you need an organized event where your kids can get some volunteer hours, please join us! I’ll have trash bags, gloves, trash grabbers, and safety vests for all volunteers.
There was 20 people that went. A lot of the scouts were newer scouts. This was a great time for them to learn to follow a map with a compass and get other requirements done. The trip was exactly 5 miles long; 2 and a half miles to the waterfall and 2 and a half back. There are a few sections on the trail that are hard to get around but

To keep our process simple and familiar we are adopting the the Sequoyah Council event screening checklist. We will use it as guidance for Troop 48 meetings, outings as well as council or District Events.
On Sunday Mar. 20th, our patrol hiked over eight miles to the Sand Cave via the Ewing trail with Avery Padgett and Derek Depew leading the way. It began with a long, steady uphill climb. When we were nearing the top of the mountain, we stopped for a rest and ate lunch. After our quick refueling, we began a steep descent towards the cave. There we found a beautiful waterfall and the large cave with sand covering the entire floor of the cave. After exploring the cave, we hiked to the white rocks. What a view! From the top of these cliffs, you could see the vast landscape of Southwest Virginia with rolling hills, steep mountains, and farmed valleys. Once we finished admiring the view, we started down the mountain with Jordan Reed up front, finishing out hike with only minor injuries of blistered toes. Our group had a blast!
Troop 48; As we celebrate moving forward into more normal scouting meetings we ask that everyone understands and follows guidelines set by the church. This behavior helps us to continue having Scout meetings in this very different situation. Please make sure that you are getting your temperature taken, have a mask on or a medical excuse not to. Please make sure you do not enter any of the Day care area rooms, the Jones building ( our old scout room ), the prayer room or the sanctuary without permission that needs to go through Julieann White and should be gotten the week before. These rooms have to be approved for use .
DON’T BE THE COVID-19 CASE THAT SHUTS TROOP 48 DOWN! Scouts and adults that have traveled out of the country recently, are not feeling well, have been around anyone not feeling well, or are part of a group exposed to someone who tested for Covid-19 (whether negative, pending, or positive), then they must skip any patrol meeting or outing during that week.
Troop 48 will assemble in the gym via the back door by 7pm sharp for a brief opening ceremony and announcements. All patrols will then disperse to their assigned rooms via different exterior doors. We are currently working together and hopefully will be available to meet in our normal setting very soon Thank you for your willingness to work together If you have any questions
Phoenix Patrol went to Camp Davy Crocket to do some trail maintenance. We all got to stay overnight in the heated staff cabins. For supper we had greasy tacos, because we forgot to drain off the grease!
After supper we played games like Sorry, Mafia and Among Us. We got up early Saturday and had bacon, sausage, eggs for breakfast.
We worked for 6 hours raking and digging on the trail. We ate lunch on some old tent platforms.
