PATROL MEETING CHECKLIST for Tuesday, November 10; 2020 Return to Class A uniform NORMAL MEETING : COH planning to follow

  1. All patrols should resume using traditional paper attendance sheet.  Updated copies are in yellow patrol binder cabinet, then return to bottom slot.  Add trips, churches, service hours, etc. for meetings missed.  Counsel and sign off advancement. 

2.  Call patrol members not present.

  • Please stay out of all day care areas; The only bathroom to be used is the boys off Room 107. Please remember social distancing and wearing your mask is a great way to stay healthy BUT is also mandatory for our Troop to use the church facilities. Please monitor numbers in rooms.  We can have NO more than 25 in a room.  Take action to make sure that everyone is working to follow these requirements. Please remember if you travel out of the Tri cities or are not feeling well or have been around anyone that is not feeling well; please do not attend the meeting: please do not hesitate to reach out to Julieann White with questions regarding our COVID policy questions
  • Wolf is Service Patrol for November. Ensure garage is straighten up with stomping cans as needed. 
  • Panther has West Bank for November. Please ask Flaming Arrow for help.  Mow last time for the year. 

•  Please pick up branches and trash, rake leaves and clip or dig up weeds, bad vines, and little privet bushes. Leave the periwinkle vines. DON’T MOW OR OTHERWISE HURT THE ENGLISH IVY!!  Good Turn part of “West Bank:” Use rakes and spread mulch to fill in holes in Children’s Playground. 

  • Mr. Miller and Mr. Hasler be at tables in the entrance area to handle payments for upcoming trips and advancement.

2021 Adult Leadership Training Opportunity: IOLS

Troop 48 has many amazing leaders. As a leader it important to be trained! To be fully trained You must be current with Hazardous Weather Training and youth protection, understanding the guidelines to the guide to safe scouting and the outdoors. If you have not taken Outdoor leadership training please get signed up to do so see John white if you have any questions.

Troop 48,

As we have all agreed previously, the safety of our people remains a key factor in guiding our decisions regarding Troop 48.  In discussions this morning more concern was raised regarding the Court of Honor coming next Tuesday.  With so much publicity and calls to be responsible and reconsider any larger meetings, it seems prudent to delay the Court of Honor.   We know this will disappoint some families but when faced with possibilities of passing sickness or worse, we believe it is wise to wait for safer times.   

We share everyone’s sadness with this decision please note we are working diligently to develop plans and hopefully will have things in order to share When our News Letter goes out.

2021 Scouting for Food

Sequoyah Council Scouting for Food Update

Scouting for Food events will be held in February 2021 in conjunction with Scouting Anniversary Week and continuous campfire. Scouting Anniversary Week provides a great opportunity to tell the Scouting story to our community through the Scouting for Food service project. For many years, districts have held fantastic continuous campfire programs to bring public awareness to Scouting Anniversary week. Having the public drop food donations at continuous campfire sites will bring even more awareness to this program.
Food City will continue to be a strong partner in the effort to provide food to those in need in our community, but instead of providing the resource of bags for distribution they will provide some regional awareness around the event through mass media.

Unit Commitment

  • Units are encouraged to partner with their chartered organizations and/or communities to share information about Scouting for Food.
  • Units will collect Scouting for Food donations at their Chartered Organization churches on Scout Sunday. (option: Working with their Chartered Organizations, units will collect Scouting for Food donations at church on Scout Sunday.)
  • Units, communities, or districts will organize continuous campfire programs the week/weekend of Scouting Anniversary.
    Timeline
    November 19th – Council Scouting for Food/Anniversary Week Organizational Meeting at 6:30 at the Scout Service Center (Anyone is welcome to attend this meeting)
    December 10th – Dates, Times, and Locations for Continuous Campfires and or/Scouting Sunday Services submitted to the Service Center
    January Roundtable – Marketing Kits Distributed to Units to be used with Chartered Organizations/Communities
    January – A website goes live with collection point information(campfires, Scout Sundays, Food Cities)
    January 31st – February 7th
  • Food City will have bins and/or bags of food for customers to purchase as well as other in-store marketing
  • Information goes on the Newspaper/radio/TV/Social Media about Scouting for Food to the Community
    February 5 – 7th – Continuous Campfires held in Districts/Communities where the community can drop off food throughout the weekend.

The Congressional Award

Scouts!!!

Earn Congressional Awards! Participants must be between the ages of 13.5 and 24 years old. Here’s how the program works:

Certificate Levels

  1. Register online and pay the small registration fee at https://www.congressionalaward.org/.  This website has valuable, detailed information about the program and the requirements. The website also has a printable record keeping book.
  2. Find an advisor. This is someone who helps you establish how you will reach your goals and oversees the process. A good place to start in your search for an advisor is an adult leader in your patrol.
  3. Find validators for each of the four program areas-volunteer service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration. Note that these categories align with what you are already doing in as a scout! You can not only advance in scouts, you can earn congressional awards at the same time!
  4. Complete the requirements for each award level. Requirements are cumulative except for the overnight expeditions/explorations. Be sure to have you record book signed off by your validators as you complete each program area.
  5. Once all the requirements are complete, have your advisor review and sign your record book for submission to earn your award!

Parents and Adult Leaders

Scouts between that ages of 13.5 and 24 have the opportunity to earn Congressional Awards, but we need your help. In order to earn these awards, our scouts will need adults willing to act as advisors and validators. An advisor helps a scout establish how they are going to reach their goals and oversees the scout’s progress toward those goals. Validators oversee individual program areas-volunteer service, personal fitness, physical fitness, and exploration/expedition. As you can see, these overlap with requirements of the scouting program, so scouts can earn recognition in both programs at the same time! If you would be willing to act as an advisor or validator, please contact Tracy Padgett at tspadgett@live.com or 423-306-0321 or Angela Ward at 423-773-4577. Without our help, our scouts will not be able to participate in this program. Our goal is to have 1-2 advisors for each patrol. ADVISORS:

  • Review the requirements and guidelines with the participant.
  • Assist the participant in setting goals for each program area that are personally challenging, achievable, measurable, and fulfilling.
  • Help the participant identify appropriate activities and qualified Validators for each goal.
  • Maintain periodic contact with the participant while they work towards their goals.
  • If the participant needs to revise goals, assist in helping set new goals and finding activities to achieve them.
  • Upon completing the program requirements, ensure that the participant has completely and accurately filled out their Record Book and have obtained signatures from each of their Validators.

VALIDATORS:

  • Review the requirements and guidelines with the participant.
  • Discuss the specific requirement for the program area in which you will be working with the participant.
  • Help the participant identify their starting level in a particular activity.
  • Make certain the participant’s goal is personally challenging, achievable, measurable, and fulfilling.
  • Once the participant has met the activity requirements, review the appropriate documentation and sign and date the Record Book page.

Mow grass as needed.DON’T MOW OR OTHERWISE HURT THE  ENGLISH IVY !!  That ivy is there thanks to Eagle Projects by Gary McGraw, Jr (1983) &  Dan Beverly (1986). Weed around shrubbery.  [ West Bank was cleared in 2013 by Tanner  Clark and his Eagle project team ].
