Hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas, hopefully you all got outside and enjoyed some outdoor activities in the snow. Remember to be available to help your neighbors who may not be able to shovel their own snow. 
Set up a zoom and be sure to include our new Scouts that are still looking for a patrol . A email has been sent with there information. 
Each patrol has a ASPL that should be available to help you if you or if you  need to reach out for any reason to myself I’m happy to help .

Registration is open on line for winter camp . 

January 15 -18 the cost is $125
• Sequoyah Council 2021 summer camp registration the class schedule returns to the historical arrangement of three slots in the morning and three in the afternoon (plus Mile Swim). No evening classes are being offered. Scouts can sign up for classes before paying their deposit with Mr. Miller Sign up for Classes with Mr. Hasler.
•KLONDIKE February 19-21 CDC NOW IS THE TIME TO START TRAINING!! Let’s plan to keep that plaque!Use your meeting Time for advancements and working on merit badge. Leadership is available in each patrol to help with skill development working together helps make for a stronger more efficient Patrol and helps everyone to be successful. Klondike is coming are you ready!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS 

Holiday off site gatherings: with patrols will be happing . Leadership will be available at church to discuss zoom planning. Room 107 Youth room 

This will be the last meeting we will gather together for please take the time to ask quotations so we can set patrols up for success. 

Please note: COVID PLAN, December 22, 2020 if for any reason you do not feel comfort in a in person meeting, please note we understand.

1. All patrols should be using traditional paper attendance sheet.  This information should Include trips, churches, service hours, etc. for meetings missed. Counsel and sign off advancement. 2. When planning patrol activities planning needs to be approved by Julieann White

leveraging of activities by patrol will continue for the foreseeable future. Given that reality, we wish to continue to maintain a low risk profile by enhancing the communication about patrol outings. The number, frequency, and complexity of which are growing as the patrols are correctly forming into more cohesive units. This will be accomplished by further promoting the filling out of a Troop 48 Trip Sheet and sharing it with troop leadership (Julieann White) in a timely fashion. This will also improve the records management for advancement and scout of the year considerations.

• Please pick-up branches and trash, rake leaves and clip or dig up weeds, bad vines, and little privet bushes. Leave the periwinkle vines. DON’T MOW OR OTHERWISE HURT THE ENGLISH IVY!! Good Turn part of “West Bank:” Use rakes and spread mulch to fill in holes in Children’s Playground.

Little pantry: Patrol will have a Inc. a Patrol food drive no glass bottles in no perishable they will stock what they can and we will store the rat to back stock . See t48.org for more information 

•Patrol planning for January patrol Trips/outings ; please make sure you have your trip approved for to stay within the guidelines of the Gide to safe scouting. Whenever planning: please remember COVID planning safety . Outside outings with small groups wearing masks, zoom meetings more preferred

Troop 48: Important COVID update 20201218

Troop family Greetings, 

Important COVID update: 

COVID case numbers continue to rise at an alarming rate specifically following the Thanksgiving holiday. This reality has led to the recent decision by Kingsport City Schools to join the County schools in a virtual attendance plan upon the school start of 2021.

We have agreed that our Troop would follow city school athletic planning. 

City school notes:

The decision has been made that all KCS schools will return from Winter Break on January 5, 2021 with fully virtual instruction. This period of at-home virtual instruction is scheduled to occur Tuesday, January 5 through Friday, January 15, 2021. We intend to return Face-to-Face students to school for in-person instruction beginning on Tuesday, January 19 (following the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 18). 

They included reasons; 

COVID-19 spread throughout Sullivan County. The decision has been made to move to virtual instruction for the first two weeks following Winter Break. The health department indicates a significant surge of community spread is very likely to take place following the holiday, similar to the large increase that has occurred after Thanksgiving. Shifting to virtual instruction for a period of time after break is intended to prevent this surge from entering our schools and to minimize the opportunities for spread among students and staff.

Additionally:

The council will be closed until the second week in January 

Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church has asked us to continue to follow advice of the school and has trusted our judgment. 

At this point we need to do our duty to our community,  Shifting to virtual meetings  for a period of time after break is this is intended to prevent this surge from entering our community  and to minimize the opportunities for spread among our scouting families. 

We had already discussed not meeting the week after Christmas encouraging zoom patrol meetings.

To help with the success of the patrol’s leadership we will be helping set up some opportunities, talking points and activities. Please make sure that all patrol leadership has a current email address for all patrol members.

Achieving Scout of the Year is a great honor ( one that can only be earned once in a lifetime) in Troop 48.  Every activity you do is recognized and graded by a point system.  Every time you attend church, Scouting for Food, a camping trip or any other Troop, Patrol, or Cub Scout Pack activity you get points.  Some activities get more points, such as overnight camping trips and backpacking trips.  At year-end all the points are tallied, and the Scout with the highest total wins the Scout of the Year award.  Also, Troop 48 gives similar special awards.  At our Annual Awards Banquet, we give trophies for:  Attending church the most in a year, earning the most merit badges in one year, attending the most Troop outings in one year, doing the most service hours, and attending the most Troop and other Scout meetings in one year.  We strongly urge being active in Scouting and the community.  All of these awards are recognition for outstanding participation. Please note patrol door update it is MANDATORY that we do not cross mix patrols PLEASE STOP WALKING through other patrol meetings!!!!

We welcome Newly crossing over Scouts James Watts to Panther and Eli Garrett to Flaming Arrow Others will be visiting patrols to make a patrol choice.

1. All patrols should resume using traditional paper attendance sheet. Updated copies are in yellow patrol binder cabinet, then return to bottom slot. Add trips, churches, service hours, etc. for meetings missed. Counsel and sign off advancement. Call patrol members not present. *At this time this is very important !

2.Please stay out of all day care areas; The only bathroom to be used is the boys off Room 107. Please remember social distancing and wearing your mask is a great way to stay healthy BUT is also mandatory for our Troop to use the church facilities. Please monitor numbers in rooms. We can have NO more than 25 in a room.

3.Take action :follow these requirements. •     Help parents and scouts understand how Scouting BSA Troop 48 functions, walking with them during initial meetings and answering questions.

•     Be a knowledgeable resource for specific events and outings through having extensive experience and continuing to participate in most trips.

•     Build enthusiasm among scouts and their parents for the exciting adventure and challenges available.

•     Establish relationship with all new scouts whether transitioning from Cub Scouts, transfers from other Scouting BSA troops, or joined without any background. 

•     Participate in Webelos crossover events to welcome new scouts, explaining the new insignia.

•     Assist Den Chiefs and Troop Guides by directing new scouts to appropriate skill development opportunities.
